For a typical small business site of 5 to 8 pages, I would normally aim for 3 to 4 weeks from the point when I have all the content and assets from you. E-commerce builds on Shopify take longer depending on the number of products and any custom functionality needed. The biggest variable is usually how quickly you can supply copy, images and feedback. I have turned sites around faster when clients are well prepared. I will give you a realistic timeline at the start and flag any delays as they arise.

At a minimum I need your logo, brand colours, any existing copy you want to keep, and a clear idea of what the site needs to do. Who is it for, what do you want them to do when they arrive, and what pages do you need? If you do not have copy written yet, that is fine. I can help you shape it or work from a brief. The clearer you are about your audience and goals before we start, the faster things move. I will send you a simple brief document before we kick off so you know exactly what to prepare.

Yes, always. Over 60% of web traffic comes from mobile devices and Google uses mobile performance as a primary ranking signal. Every site I build is tested on mobile and tablet as well as desktop, across multiple browsers. I also run it through Google's Core Web Vitals checks to make sure page speed is acceptable on mobile connections, not just fast broadband. If you have an existing site that is not working well on mobile, that is something I can fix without necessarily rebuilding the whole thing.

I can advise on both and help you set them up, but I do not host client sites directly. Hosting costs are separate from my fee and vary depending on the platform. Wix and Shopify both include hosting in their monthly subscription. For other platforms, I will recommend a reliable UK host and help you get set up. The cost is typically between £5 and £20 per month depending on what you need. I will always be upfront about what hosting will cost before you commit to anything. On domains, I recommend you keep ownership of your domain in your own name, not registered through a third party. I will walk you through everything you need to do to get it set up correctly.

Yes, that is the intention. I build on platforms like Wix and Shopify precisely because they are designed to be manageable by non-technical business owners. Once the site is live I will walk you through how to make common updates: changing text, swapping images, adding products, publishing blog posts. I will record short video walkthroughs if that helps. You should not need me every time you want to change your opening hours or add a new service. If something more technical comes up later I am always available, but day-to-day management should be in your hands.

It is fast to build on, easy for clients to manage, and the SEO capabilities are genuinely good when set up properly. Shopify is the right choice for e-commerce. I also work with WordPress if you already have a site on it, though I will not always recommend it as a starting point for a new small business site.
